NSW. May 1940. Paybook photograph of NX15479 Lance Sergeant Campbell William Ellis, 2/4th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Lance Sergeant Ellis, aged 26, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 30 May 1941. He was the son of Mr and Mrs S. Ellis, of Sydney, NSW.
