NSW. May 1940. Paybook photograph of NX15544 Private William Gerald Wilson, Headquarters Guard Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Wilson, aged 39, died on 12 November 1941, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Joseph Henry and Ida Christina Wilson, of Molong, NSW. He is buried in the Hanover War Cemetery, Germany, Section 9, Row B, Plot 3.
