SA. Paybook photograph of SX2198 Private Philip Joseph Rex Martin, 2/1st Machine Gun Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Martin, aged 21, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 24 May 1941. He was the son of William Jacob and Victoria Louise Martin, of Orroroo, SA. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency.
