Vic. Paybook photograph of VX768 Gunner Richard Wilfred Mitchell, 2/2nd Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Mitchell, aged 31, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 24 May 1941. He was the son of Edward and Emily Maude Mitchell, and the husband of Marjorie Louisa Mitchell, of Richmond, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10.
