Vic. Paybook photograph of VX1160 Private Francis Cuthbert Vale, 2/8th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Vale, aged 29, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 25 May 1941. He was the son of Harry Cuthbert and Helena Evelyn Vale, of Welshpool, Vic. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 1, Row A, Plot 6.
