Paybook photograph of VX4796 Private Eric Clifton Eldridge, Headquarters 17th Brigade, Australian Infantry. Private Eldridge, aged 23, died on 14 October 1941, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of George William and Fanny Louisa Eldridge, of Ouyen, Vic. He is buried in the Cracow Rakowicki Cemetery, Poland, , Poland, Section 6,Row E, Plot 4.
