Vic. Paybook photograph of VX6075 Private Edward Henry Jones, 2/8th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Jones, aged 27, was accidentally killed on 27 May 1941, in Spharkia when the German Luger pistol he was carrying went off while he was climbing through a wire fence, during the defence of the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Henry John and Amelia Agnes Jones, of Carlton, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency.
