Vic. Paybook photograph of VX7142 Corporal James Newton, 2/7th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Corporal Newton, aged 23, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 27 May 1941. He was the son of Robert and Daisy Newton, of Wagga Wagga, NSW.
