Germany. Prisoner of War (POW) photograph of VX16564 Private Ronald McDonald Downe, 2/7th Battalion, Australian Infantry. He was captured while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion Private Downe, aged 32, died of self inflicted wounds after repatriation from Germany on 20 May 1945. He was the son of Harry Thompson Downe and Lillian Grace Downe, of Toorak, Vic. He is buried in the Brookwood Military Cemetery Section 4, Row M, Plot 22.
