Germany. Prisoner of War (POW) identification photograph of VX16565 Private John McArthur, 2/7th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Mcarthur, aged 38, died on 2 October 1943, as a POW (number 7819), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Mr and Mrs W. A. Mcarthur, and the husband of Queenie Elizabeth Mcarthur, of Balwyn, Vic. He is buried in the Cracow Rakowicki Cemetery, Poland, , Poland, Section 3, Row C, Plot 12.
