Vic. Paybook photograph of VX26576 Private John Spriggs, 2/5th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Spriggs, aged 44, died on 25 January 1945, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of William and Julia Ann Spriggs, and the husband of Elsie R. Spriggs, of East Melbourne, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 11.
