Vic. Paybook photograph of VX27838 Gunner John Hawke, 3rd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Hawke, aged 41, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 16 May 1941. He was the son of George and Louisa Hawke, and the husband of Annie Letitia Hawke, of South Melbourne, Vic. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 5, Row B, Plot 5.
