Vic. Paybook photograph of VX30814 Private John Matthew Magill, 2/7th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Magill, aged 36, died on 24 March 1945, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Mathew and Sarah Blanche Magill, of Timboon, Vic. He is buried in the Hanover War Cemetery, Germany, Section 4, Row J, Plot 19.
