Vic. Paybook photograph of VX36568 Gunner Cromwell George Stainer, 3rd Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Stainer, aged 39, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 20 May 1941. He was the son of George and Ada Annie Stainer, and the husband of Gladys May Stainer. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10.
