Vic. Paybook photograph of VX40026 Gunner Clarence Herbert Charles Helmore, 3rd Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Helmore, aged 21, died on 12 June 1941, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being reported missing in action on 29 May 1941, while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Lancelot James Mercer Helmore and Emily Helmore, and the husband of Hazel Lillian Helmore, of Chilwell, Vic. He is buried in the Phaleron War Cemetery Section 3, Row A, Plot 17.
