Vic. Paybook photograph of VX42541 Sapper Leslie Francis Atwell, 2/8th Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers. Sapper Atwell, aged 19, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 28 May 1941. He was the son of William Henry and Lillian May Atwell, of Thornbury, Vic. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 5, Row D, Plot 15.
