WA. Paybook photograph of WX331 Private Artis Walter Jones (Mentioned in Despatches), 2/11th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Jones, aged 39, died on 4 April 1945, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of William and Ada Jones, of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. He is buried in the Berlin 1942 - 45 War Cemetery Section 11, Row A, Plot 15.
