WA. Paybook photograph of WX934 Sergeant George Morrison McGowan, 2/11th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Sergeant McGowan, aged 29, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 23 May 1941. He was the son of John and Margaret Morrison McGowan, of Glasgow, Scotland. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency.
