WA. Paybook photograph of WX1658 Private George Robertson Wood McDermid, 2/11th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private McDermid, aged 27, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 27 May 1941. He was the son of Mr and Mrs D. McDermid, of Prestwick, Ayrshire, Scotland. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 5, Row C, Plot 9. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency.
