Laverton RAAF Base, Vic. December 1966. Lying on a stretcher is Private Ian McMonigle of Wangaratta, Vic, a member of 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR), as he is carried from a Hercules aircraft which evacuated him from Vietnam. He had spent about six weeks in an Army hospital in Vung Tau, South Vietnam with malaria. Watching over him is Major A. Allsop, Officer in Charge of the Army component at Repatriation General Hospital, Heidelberg, under whose care he will be during the next few weeks. Assisting on the far side of the stretcher is RAAF Corporal Don Ridding of Laverton Base.
