Australian Army 590 Lieutenant Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper and 859 Lieutenant John Malbon Maughan on board the troopship Berrima bound for New Britain. The ship was carrying the first contingent of the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) which was to remove German control from the area.
