Description
Australians and Englishmen who work side by side in RAF Wellington bomber squadrons based in Italy are great enthusiasts in the matter of mascots. Nearly every crew has their own special luck bringer. Rabbits are popular. Seen here is a different kind of mascot, Herbert the lizard. His owner, Sergeant L Jackson of London, England, is showing it to his friend, 415919 Pilot Officer (PO) Robert Edward Seymour Shearer, RAAF of Perth, WA. PO Shearer was killed in operations over Hungary on 25 June, 1944 while attached to RAF 150 Squadron.
