The collection comprises: (i) a hand written transcript of a diary of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Neil William George Macintosh (RAN Reserve) dated November 1939-June 1942, comprising brief daily notes recording his activities and postings, and the movements and missions of ships, including HMASs Moresby, Swan and Manoora (involved in minesweeping, convoy and escort operations in Australian waters and around the Indian Ocean), on which he served as surgeon officer; (ii) cookbook compiled by his wife Ann (nee Scot Skirving), a member of the Australian Army Medical Women's Service (AAMWS), while seconded as a cook to 2/6 Australian General Hospital (AGH) on the Atherton Tableland in 1944. N.W.G. Macintosh was later Challis Professor of Anatomy, University of Sydney.
