Burma. c. 20 March 1945. Mandalay, second city of Burma, fell to troops of the British 14th Army, after nearly three years of occupation by the Japanese. During the fighting in the streets of the city, a pagoda, which had been turned into a Japanese stronghold, burns from fierce artillery fire.
