Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 426063 Leading Aircraftman Hubert Noel Dillon, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia, 1942-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 - collection consists of 6 letters (4 with associated envelopes), 1 telegram and 1 birthday card sent by Dillon to his daughter, Julia Dolores Dillon, dated between 1942 and 13 December 1943. Three of the envelopes are colourfully illustrated by Dillon, two of them depicting wooden sailing ships and the third depicting a man writing a letter home. In these letters, Dillon connects with his young daughter (affectionately referred to as 'Chickaboo'), discussing souvenirs he has collected for her, special treats she enjoys and her home in Roma, Queensland. Dillon makes reference to special occasions, such as birthdays, Christmas and Mother's Day, which he is absent for during his service. The birthday card, decorated with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck illustrations, was created by Dillon and sent to Julia for her 3rd birthday in 1943.
