VX1 General Sir Thomas Blamey, GBE, KCB, CMG, DSO (left), Commanding Allied Land Forces, South West Pacific Area, shakes hands with QX1585 Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2) J R Reinke (right), a member of one of the units of the 7th Australian Division that General Blamey is farewelling from Jackson's Strip, as they are flown into the forward area. Others pictured are, left to right: VX87009 Private (Pte) W W Fielder; NX80187 Pte R L Devenport; NX88065 Pte J D Quinn and NX81833 Pte H J Rice. Four others at right unidentified. WO2 Reinke, Pte Quinn and Pte Fielder were killed in an aircraft accident the next day, 7 September 1943.
