DSMs presented at Rushcutters Bay Naval Depot. Twelve year old Maxwell Reece, son of Stoker Petty Officer W. J. H. Reece, of HMAS Perth receives his father's Distinguished Service Medal from Rear Admiral G. C. Muirhead-Gould. The DSM was awarded for work in the evacuation of Crete. PO Reece was posted missing at the time but had in fact been killed in action when HMAS Perth was sunk on the 1st of March 1942 during the battle of the Sunda Straits.
