Rescued after living ten and 14 months respectively with natives in New Britain, three American aviators and an Australian were welcomed at a New Guinea base. Left to right (marked with crosses) Pte Dale E. Bordner of Ohio, Pte. M C Hughes of Texas, Lt Eugene D Wallace of California and Pte. John Leslie Stokie, a coastwatcher and member of the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles, of Colac, Victoria.
