Description
A Supermarine Seagull V aircraft, serial number A2-2, being launched from a catapult on the port side of a Kent class cruiser. Some of the ship's company gather near the platform to observe the flight. With a complement of three, the aircraft were flown by 9 Squadron (Fleet Cooperation) RAAF aircrew, with a Pilot (RAAF), an Observer (RAN) and a RAN Telegraphist Air Gunner (TAG). These spotter-reconnaissance amphibian aircraft were carried on most RAN heavy cruisers. The aircraft type also entered RAF service where it was called a Walrus.
