Description
The Queen Mary, a former Cunard liner requisitioned for wartime use as a troop ship by the Admiralty, steams alongside the Kent class cruiser HMAS Canberra. As armament is visible on the stern of the passenger ship, it indicates that the image was possibly taken in the Atlantic early in the war. The Queen Mary, the pride of Britain's pre-war merchant fleet, carried thousands of Allied troops during the Second World War. HMAS Canberra was sunk on 9 August 1942 off Savo Island in the battle of Guadalcanal.
