Collection relating to the service of 2766 Private Leonard Barton Leece, 15th Battalion AIF
Description
Studio portrait of 2766 Private (Pte) Leonard Barton "Bart" Leece, 15th Battalion, with a dog. Pte Leece, a Bank Clerk of Casino, NSW, enlisted at Brisbane on 9 August 1915, age 18, with signed letters of permission to enlist from his parents. His older brother, 3571 Private James Andrew Leece, 2nd Pioneer Battalion, enlisted at Enoggera, QLD, just two days later on 11 August 1915. Pte Leonard Barton Leece embarked from Sydney with the 9th Reinforcements of the 15th Battalion aboard HMAT Ayshire on 1 September 1915. He died of wounds received in action on 29 August 1916, at Pozieres, France. He was 19 years old.
