Collection relating to the service of 2766 Private Leonard Barton Leece, 15th Battalion AIF
Description
Studio portrait of two young children dressed as Australian soldiers. Identified standing is a young Leonard Barton "Bart" Leece. The child on the left is possibly Edgar Leslie Coleman, whose father, Cornelius "Neil" Coleman, who worked in partnership with Bart's father, Alexander Ellis Leece, as newspaper printers and proprieters in Casino, NSW. Bart would enlist in the AIF in 1915 as a private, at age 18. Private Leonard Barton Leece embarked from Sydney with the 9th Reinforcements of the 15th Battalion aboard HMAT Ayshire on 1 September 1915. He died of wounds received in action on 29 August 1916, at Pozieres, France. He was 19 years old.
