Group studio portrait of 4208a Private (Pte) Ernest Alfred Hall, 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion (seated), and 1984 Pte Arthur Ernest Howell of Wangaratta. On the verso is a letter dated 14 June 1917 from Pte Hall to his parents. Pte Hall notes; "... we are not togged up for Sunday afternoon." Pte Hall was killed in action on 4 October 1917, at the age of 22, and is buried at Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium.
