Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX80932 Lieutenant William Riggall, 7th Division Headquarters, Second Australian Imperial Force, New Guinea, 1942 - 1943.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one diary of Lieutenant William Riggall, containing entries dated between November 1942 and January 1943. This diary was written in New Guinea while Lieutenant Riggall was serving as aide to General George Alan Vasey. Lieutenant Riggall writes about arriving at Kokoda by aeroplane, living conditions for the troops, his impressions of the landscape, the battle at Oivi and Gorari, walking on the Kododa Trail, the difficulty of travel, interacting with local groups of people, types of food eaten, the planning of battles and logistics, receiving news from officers, the battle at Buna and Gona, receiving reports on the progress of the Allied forces, meetings with friends and colleagues, the strength and fitness of different brigades and battalions, and seeing battlefields won from the Japanese.
