Description
Framed studio portrait of 32122 Gunner (Gnr) John Charles Harris, 8th Field Artillery Brigade. Born in Cornwall, UK, John Harris was employed as Postal Assistant and resided in Milsons Point, North Sydney prior to enlistment, aged 26, on 8 October 1916. He embarked from Sydney with the 10th Reinforcements, 4th Australian Divisional Ammunition Column (DAC) aboard RMS Osterley on 10 February 1917, and following training at Tidworth Camp, UK, proceeded to France on 1 April. Following the cessation of hostilities he was transferred to the Australian Army Postal Corps on 22 February 1919. Gnr Harris returned to Australia aboard HMAT Takada on 18 July 1919 and was discharged in on 19 October.
