Description
Studio portrait of 16515 Sapper (Spr) Edmund George Brown, 1st Field Company Engineers. A motor mechanic from Wyalong, New South Wales, Spr Brown enlisted on 16 October 1916. He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A67 Orsova on 2 December 1916 with the December 1916 Reinforcements. Brown underwent training in England before he embarked for France on 16 May 1917 and joined the 1st Field Company Engineers on 5 June 1917. Spr Brown was killed in action in Belgium on 4 October 1917 at the age of 32. He was awarded both the British War Medal and Victory Medal. Spr Brown is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery (Plot XLI, Row B, Grave No. 6), Passchendaele, Belgium.
