Description
A group of Boers from General Lemmer's Orange Free State Unit in line formation in the Transvaal. Two Krupp cannons at open sights provide the centre pieces. Led by Artillery Lieutenant Baay (unplaced), a heliograph team use tripod mounted reflectors to flash messages over great distances. General Hermanus Richard (Manie) Lemmer led the Lichtenburg Commando of 700 men. On 14 December 1900 he was killed in a skirmish near Ottoshoop.
