Description

Burma. 1 May 1945. The seaborne invasion steaming towards the river and port. Landing barges of the Royal Navy landed on both banks of the Rangoon river, south of the town. Fires in the background were caused by supporting Allied fighter aircraft, strafing enemy strongpoints on the banks of the river. Paratroops of South East Asia Command landed from the air on strategic points round the town and port of Rangoon, the capital of Burma.
