Description
An informal portrait of Lieutenant Commander Patrick John Vickers, possibly taken onboard the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne during SEATO Exercise Seadog. He is wearing flying gear including a helmet, life vest and communications equipment. Later that year, he was appointed as the senior pilot of the first contingent of the Royal Australian Navy Helicopter Flight Viet Nam. He was killed in action on 22 February 1968 and posthumously awarded a Mentioned in Despatches (MID) for his service.
