Members of the RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam (RANHFV), 1st Contingent, are preparing to leave Australia for Vietnam, where they will work with the US Army's 135th Assault Helicopter Company at Vung Tau, which has a primary role of supporting the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF), in Phuoc Tuy Province. At an airport in Sydney, awaiting departure are, left to right: R93311 Leading Aircraftman Photographer (LA PHOT) John Dawe, of Bendigo, Vic; Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Patrick John Vickers, of Mooloolaba, Qld, second in command of RANHFV; Captain A MacIntosh, of Canberra, ACT; and R54765 Leading Aircraftman (LAM) Kevin James French, of Berry, NSW. Lt Cdr Vickers was killed in action on 22 February 1968, in Long Khanh Province, Vietnam.
