Description
Kyaungmudaw, Burma. 22 February 1945. At the request of the British 14th Army, Liberator bomber aircraft of RAF and US Army Air Force units of the Strategic Air Force, Eastern Air Command, attacked a Japanese occupied position in the area of the famous pagoda of the Royal Benefaction. Although the target area was well saturated with bombs, the pagoda itself (left centre) was not hit and sustained only superficial damage which illustrated the accuracy of the bombing. The pagoda, is a famous twelve hundred year old shrine which is revered by Buddhists throughout the world.
