Simpson Bay, Rabaul, New Britain. 6 September 1945. The Japanese surrender party including General H. Imamura, Commander Eight Army Area, Admiral J. Kusaka, Commander South East Area Fleet stand on their boat prior to the official surrender ceremony, which took place aboard aircraft carrier HMS Glory. This ceremony signified the surrender of all Japanese Forces in New Guinea, New Britain and the Solomans. Note the white surrender flag which is attached to the boat, in the foreground. (Donor E.
