Members of the Papuan Infantry Battalion (PIB) patrol in camp at a forward post. Sergeant (Sgt) C. Ryan of Goulburn, NSW, conducts weapon training with two PIB patrolmen, Sgt Gabriel and Pte Gibaru outside their huts. PN639 Pata Gibaru, 1st Papuan Infantry Battalion enlisted on 19 March 1943. He died of illness on 3 December 1943 at Territory of Papua and New Guinea.
