Studio portrait of 37372 Gunner David Norman Hampden Ainsworth, 12th Field Artillery Brigade. Gnr Ainsworth enlisted in 1917 and served at the Western Front. In 1918 at the capture of Mont St Quentin Gnr Ainsworth was gassed with phosgene and remained in hospital until the Armistice was signed. He returned home in January 1919 and resumed an accounting career. Mr Ainsworth made a visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier at the Australian War Memorial in 1994. He was almost 101 years old at his death on 28 July 1996.
