Rochy Conde, France. April 1962. The house owned by Monsieur Marin, a mill owner where 415242 Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Noel Stirling Eliot RAAF was taken after spending a week with the Berthomier family. He spent one night here before being moved onto Therdonne. Flt Lt Eliot, pilot of No. 218 Squadron RAF, had escaped by parachute from his Stirling bomber aircraft which was shot down on 1 May 1944 while on a bombing raid over the Chambly railway marshalling yards, north of Paris. Madame Berthomier and her husband took Flt Lt Eliot in and made contact with the Underground. Flt Lt Eliot was then moved to a series of safe houses on the Comet (Comete) escape route which included Monsieur Marin's house and camps in the Forest of Freteval. (Donor N. Eliot)
