Private (Pte) William (Bill) Plunkett, of Geelong, Vic, with a Japanese light machine gun found ...
Description
Private (Pte) William (Bill) Plunkett, of Geelong, Vic, with a Japanese light machine gun found after the Australians had driven the enemy from the ridge. The Japanese weapon closely resembles a Bren gun. Pte Plunkett was a former player with the Geelong football club. Pte Plunkett and Private John James Walsh had been at Goodview Junction when a Japanese patrol had appeared. The pair hid behind a tree until the patrol passed and when they stood, dicovered they had been sitting on a booby trap. They had lost weight during their time in New Guinea and believe their low weight meant the pin did not dislodge.
