An unidentified soldier takes a break to write mail onboard the troop transport HMAS Sydney which was carrying soldiers of 1 Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) to Vietnam. He has found a convenient space next to an open scuttle which is fitted with a scoop to draw fresh air into the compartment to cool him down as a respite from the hot temperatures often experienced within the warship.
