Description
Group portrait of Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) troops and members of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) being briefed by 54828 Warrant Officer (WO) Frederick George (Fred) Hamersley (background, facing camera) prior to commencing a patrol in the Sa Huynh area of South Vietnam. WO Hamersley had previously served as a Corporal with the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) in the Korean War. From 1965 to 1966 he undertook a tour of duty in Vietnam with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). His second tour of duty was with the AATTV from 1967 to 1968. WO Hamersley was killed in action on 30 May 1968, during an operation at Quang Nam.
