El Ballah, Middle East. c.1942. Group portrait of participants of No 23 P. G. I. Course. From left to right: top row: Lieutenant (Lt) Jaksic, Flight Lieutenant (Fl Lt) Gunn, Pilot Officer (PO) Hudson Garth Ainslie RAAF, 111 Squadron RAF, Lt Irving, Lt Tarr, Captain (Capt) Badenhorst. Front row: Lt Ellis USAAF, Lt Vachon USAAF, Fl Lt Staniforth, Squadron Leader Ashton, Capt Sachs, Lt De Sutter USAAF. PO Ainslie was killed on 2 October 1944 when he was hit by an aircraft which crashed whilst landing at Florence, Italy. He is buried at the Florence British War Cemetery. (Donor P. Laughlin)
