Western Desert, North Africa. 17 December 1941. A Lockheed Hudson aircraft used as an aerial ambulance, by the South African Air Force, denoted by the red cross, covered for protection against desert sandstorms. Tarpaulins are tied around the tail wing, nose, engine cowling and body of the plane. These aircraft are doing fine work in ferrying the wounded back to base hospital from advanced areas.
